Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister and actor Pawan Kalyan revealed that he almost joined Naxalism at 17 but his brother Chiranjeevi stopped him.

Pawan spoke about how enraged he was by the state of affairs in the world in the 80s, citing the South African apartheid, LTTE movement in Sri Lanka, Cold War, and more.

He admitted to attending jana sabhas and even considering picking up a gun but his brother's words changed his mind.

Chiranjeevi asked Pawan if he would do the same if he had responsibilities towards his family, and Pawan couldn't answer.

He then turned to spirituality before pursuing acting classes and eventually debuted in films in 1996 with Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi.
