The 79th Cannes Film Festival concluded with Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu taking home the top prize, the Palme d'Or, for his film Fjord.

Fjord, starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, tells the story of Romanian Evangelicals who move to Norway and have their children taken away by child services.

This is Mungiu's second Palme d'Or win, making him the 10th filmmaker to achieve this feat.

Fjord also won the François Chalais Prize, the FIPRESCI Prize, and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury.

Minotaur, directed by Andrey Zvyagintsev, took home the Grand Prix for its portrayal of a callous businessman caught up in Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Camera d'Or award for best first film went to Marie Clémentine Dusabejambo's post-genocide drama Ben'Imana, the first Rwandan film to be officially selected for the festival.
