Four More Shots Please! Season 4 Falls Flat: A Tame, Forgettable End to a Favourite Series

Four More Shots Please! returns for its fourth season, but it's clear that the show's spark has fizzled out. Gone are the bold, unapologetic days of its early seasons, replaced by a watered-down narrative that fails to captivate its audience. The show's four female leads, once the heart and soul of the series, now feel like caricatures of their former selves. The season jumps four years ahead, with Siddhi (Maanvi Gagroo) on the brink of marriage, but her cold feet and anxiety about her partner set the tone for a lacklustre season. Her story becomes overly focused on her career as a stand-up comic, but her success is built on making jokes about her husband and sex life, leading to a shallow conflict that fails to resonate. Damini's (Sayani Gupta) storyline is particularly disappointing, as she's reduced to a diluted version of her former self. Her podcasting venture is promising, but it's overshadowed by her brother Ash (Kunal Roy Kapoor), making her emotional journey feel underwritten. Sayani's gravitas and emotional authority are missing, and her longing for Jeh (Prateik Smita Patil) is reduced to blank stares and sighs. Kirti Kulhari's Anjana remains the most underwritten character, with her transformation into a successful, liberated woman feeling unearned. Her affair with Dino Morea begins abruptly, and her decision to take a sabbatical and embark on a bike road expedition with him feels like a jarring plot twist. Umang (Bani J) is once again placed at the crossroads of emotional turmoil, but her struggles are treated with frustrating ease. The re-entry of Samara (Lisa Ray) stirs unresolved feelings in Umang, but the tension is brushed aside, leaving the audience with no insight into how she processed her emotions. The season is a noticeable shift in tone and storytelling, with cameo appearances by Milind Soman and Neeraj Kabi feeling underutilised. Visually, the show continues to impress, but aesthetics can only go so far. The iconic 'four more shots' moment appears only at the end, feeling like a hollow attempt at closure. Overall, Four More Shots Please! Season 4 is a disappointing end to a once-beloved series. With a watered-down narrative and underwritten characters, it's clear that the show has lost its spark.
