Indian screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar has been making headlines lately for rejecting the sequel to the 1997 film Border. However, his recent comments have shifted the focus to his appreciation for some of India's recent cinematic offerings. In an interview with Zoom, Akhtar expressed admiration for two films: Superboys of Malegaon and Dhurandhar. Akhtar praised Superboys of Malegaon, stating that it's a 'very good film' and 'well-made.' He also recommended it to his audience. The film, directed by Reema Kagti, revolves around the life of Nasir Shaikh and other amateur filmmakers in the small town of Malegaon. Akhtar's praise for Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, and Sanjay Dutt, was even more notable. He called the film 'great' and 'very well-made.' In fact, he went as far as to find the director, Aditya Dhar, and congratulate him personally on his achievement. Dhurandhar 2 is set to release on March 19, with its teaser attached to Border 2, which hits theaters on January 23. Akhtar's comments highlight the growing trend of original and engaging content in Indian cinema, which is gaining recognition from industry professionals like himself. His praise for these films serves as a testament to the efforts of Indian filmmakers in pushing the boundaries of storytelling and entertainment.
