Maharashtra Municipal Elections Underway: Celebrities Lead the Way in BMC Polls

Voting for the municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra has begun, with over 3.48 crore eligible voters set to decide the fate of 15,908 candidates across 2,869 seats in 29 corporations. Multiple celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, and Hema Malini, have already cast their votes. Polling stations have been set up across the state, with a total of 39,092 centres. The voting process will continue until 5:30 pm today, followed by vote counting on January 16. A total of 43,958 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been made available for the municipal corporation elections, including 11,349 control units and 22,698 ballot units for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation alone. The elections were announced by the State Election Commission on December 15, 2025, with the general elections scheduled for the 29 municipal corporations. The corporations include Brihanmumbai, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Navi Mumbai, and several others.
