Bengali film director Raj Chakraborty, contesting from Barrackpore Assembly constituency, was forced to leave the vote counting ground amid rising tensions.

Although he won last time, Raj was trailing by more than 9,500 votes till 3:45 pm. BJP candidate Kaustuv Bagchi is leading.

As Raj was taken aside from the premises, people started shouting slogans and threw mud at him. Raj maintained his calm and did not respond to the slogans.

Earlier, Raj expressed his faith in Mamata Banerjee, saying she would win again and that the BJP supporters would 'run away'.

The BJP has secured 33 seats and is leading in 171 constituencies, marking a significant departure from the dominance of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the people of West Bengal, saying the BJP's politics of good governance has triumphed.
