Swara Bhasker's mother, film scholar Ira Bhaskar, has criticized the film Dhurandhar for its political messaging and extreme violence. The film, starring Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna, became a massive box-office success and continues to generate conversation months after its release.

Ira appeared on an episode of Karwan e Mohabbat, where she reflected on how storytelling in Indian cinema has evolved over the years. She stated that the film's portrayal of Muslims and Pakistan reinforces stereotypes and that its violence is at the service of a belief structure of an ideology that Muslims are violent people.

The film's director, Aditya Dhar, has been defended by several celebrities, including Karan Johar and Shatrughan Sinha, who have called it an 'absolute masterpiece.' However, Ira believes that the film is 'ridiculous' and that it uses makeup to portray Muslims in a negative light.

Dhurandhar tells the story of an Indian spy infiltrating Karachi's criminal and political underworld in Pakistan and has collected over ₹1300 crore worldwide. Its sequel is slated to release on March 19.
