Renowned Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen has responded to AR Rahman's claims of facing communal bias in the Hindi film industry. In a scathing post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Nasreen argued that it's unfair for Rahman to be 'pitied' when he is a successful and wealthy artist. Nasreen pointed out that Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and other prominent Muslim stars in Bollywood have achieved immense success without facing the same difficulties as Rahman. She emphasized that the rich and famous, regardless of their religion, rarely face challenges in their careers. Nasreen shared her own experiences as a self-exiled writer, highlighting the difficulties she has faced due to her atheist views and her name being mistaken for a Muslim identity. She contrasted her struggles with Rahman's privileged position as a renowned musician. Rahman had sparked controversy with his comments on communal bias in an interview with the BBC Asian Network. He later apologized for any pain caused, stating that his intention was to uplift and honor Indian culture through his music. The incident has sparked a debate on social media, with many questioning the notion of communal bias in the Hindi film industry. Nasreen's response serves as a reminder that the struggles faced by artists like her are often vastly different from those of their more affluent and well-connected counterparts.
