Vijay's highly anticipated film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, has received a nod from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) for a UK release on January 9. However, the film's team is still facing hurdles in India due to a controversy surrounding its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The BBFC has rated Jana Nayagan '15' for strong violent content, including beheadings, gunfights, and scenes of sexual violence. The film's plot revolves around a man's fight against corrupt officials and an arms dealer, leading to a series of violent confrontations. According to the BBFC, the film contains explicit scenes of violence, including improvised weapons, kidnappings, and detailed depictions of bloodied corpses. Additionally, the film explores themes of terrorism, drug trafficking, and violence against women, including a scene where a young woman is thrown from a moving vehicle after an implied sexual assault. In India, the film's producers, KVN Productions, have filed a petition in the Madras High Court to expedite the certification process. The CBFC had initially indicated that the film would receive a UA 16+ certificate, but a complaint was received claiming the film hurts religious sentiments. The producers claim to have complied with the requested cuts and modifications, but the certification process remains stalled. The court has questioned the producers' urgency to release the film on January 9, citing concerns over the potential impact on the film's box office performance. The producers, however, argue that there is ₹500 crore at stake, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution to the certification issue.
