Vijay Varma, a Film and Television Institute of India graduate, has spoken out about his struggles in the film industry. The actor, who gained success with Gully Boy, has faced periods of unemployment and typecasting. In a recent interview, he recalled sitting idle after premiering at the Cannes Film Festival with Monsoon Shootout.
Varma has appeared in various films, including Pink, Raag Desh, Manto, and Middle Class Abbayi, before his breakthrough role in Gully Boy. However, even his success saw him fighting typecast, with roles often limited to small parts or friends giving high fives to the hero.
The actor has since earned acclaim for his work in films and shows such as Darlings, Dahaad, and Mirzapur. He will now star in Matka King, a Prime Video series inspired by real life, where he plays a gambling boss. The show features a talented cast, including Kritika Kamra, Gulshan Grover, and Jamie Lever, and is set to release on April 17.
