A Singapore court has revealed new details about the death of Assamese singer Zubeen Garg, confirming that he drowned while swimming off Lazarus Island last September, contradicting earlier reports of scuba diving. The 51-year-old musician was 'severely intoxicated' at the time of the incident, according to authorities. During a coroner's inquiry on Wednesday, witnesses testified that Garg, who had a history of hypertension and epilepsy, attempted to swim back to his yacht but went limp and floated face down in the water. Despite being rescued and given CPR, he was pronounced dead soon after. The Singapore police confirmed that there was no foul play involved, but the incident has sparked a murder probe in Assam, where Garg's death has been linked to a conspiracy. The state CID has submitted a 2,500-page chargesheet, which expands to 12,000 pages with supporting documents. Seven people have been arrested, and four have been charged with murder, including Garg's secretary, band members, his cousin, and two personal security officers. The Assam government has vowed to expedite proceedings to ensure justice for the late singer, who was a beloved figure in the Northeast and across India. The Singapore coroner's inquiry is ongoing, with 35 witnesses set to testify. The case has sparked a heated debate about the circumstances surrounding Garg's death, with the Assam government alleging a conspiracy and the Singapore authorities attributing it to an accidental drowning.
