A search is underway for Jason Coughran, a 60-year-old avid hiker who has been missing for nearly a week in the wilderness near Lake Tahoe.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has asked for help in locating Coughran, who was last seen on May 25th, 2026, around 4:00 pm.
Coughran is described as a white male, 6'02" tall, 150 pounds, with brown hair, hazel eyes, and an athletic build.
He was hiking into Desolation Wilderness from Fallen Leaf Lake and is believed to be wearing khaki shorts.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office has urged anyone who was hiking in the area and came across Coughran to contact them at 530-621-6600 or 530-573-3051.
Weather in high elevations can be unpredictable, and the office has warned people to plan accordingly while stepping into the wilderness.
