A former Arizona law enforcement official has raised questions about whether authorities downplayed Mexico ties in the Nancy Guthrie case to avoid a federal investigation.
Retired Lieutenant Dave Smith told Fox News Digital that the man caught on surveillance footage from Nancy's Nest doorbell camera appeared to be wearing a holstered pistol in the 'Mexican carry' style.
Smith noted that Nancy's neighborhood is just 60 miles from the border town of Nogales and that crossing the border could make it easier to blend in.
He suggested that authorities may have downplayed Mexico ties to keep the feds out of the case, citing a 'great deal of effort' to deny any possibility of interstate or international transport.
