Former Massachusetts congressman Barney Frank, a trailblazer in modern American history, has passed away at 86. As tributes pour in, many are remembering his partner Jim Ready, a small business owner and photographer.
Jim Ready, from Ogunquit, Maine, runs a custom awnings and handyman service, and is also a talented photographer. He and Frank made history in 2012 when they married in a ceremony officiated by then-Governor Deval Patrick.
The couple's wedding was a historic milestone, with Frank becoming the first member of Congress to enter a same-sex marriage. This came 25 years after he became the first member of Congress to voluntarily come out as gay.
Frank, a champion of financial reform, represented Massachusetts in the US House of Representatives from 1981 to 2013 and sponsored the landmark Dodd-Frank Act. He died after a battle with congestive heart failure, leaving behind a legacy of service and love.
