Beijing has threatened to launch trade probes against the European Union if it pushes ahead with a proposal to curb imports of heavily subsidized foreign products.
The move comes as European officials are set to discuss ramping up the bloc's trade defenses, which China sees as aimed at shielding critical industries from Chinese rivals.
The EU's industry chief has said Brussels will broaden the use of trade defenses such as import quotas and tariffs to shield European industries from state-backed Chinese competitors.
Analysts say the safeguards could effectively serve as a sweeping new trade-defense mechanism against China, targeting Chinese industrial exports in key markets like electric vehicles, steel, and solar panels.
