Cricket Canada has described the International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to suspend its membership as unexpected, citing 'corrective measures' to address the deficiencies identified by the global body.
The suspension, which took effect immediately, was due to 'serious breaches of its membership obligations,' according to the ICC. However, Canadian national representative teams will continue to be eligible to participate in ICC events to protect the interests of players.
Cricket Canada said it is 'fully committed to meeting all compliance requirements' and has undertaken immediate corrective measures to address governance, financial oversight, and administrative deficiencies.
The national body acknowledged that funding will be withheld during the suspension period but will have access to funds through a controlled mechanism under ICC management for approved national team programs.
The suspension comes amid allegations of gang-related threats to national team players, financial mismanagement, and potential match-fixing linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Cricket Canada has been in turmoil in recent months, with a new president, Arvinder Khosa, elected earlier this month. However, Khosa was also named in a report suggesting potential match-fixing and has dismissed the allegations as 'political propaganda.'
