A Russian court has sentenced a 46-year-old Walt Disney executive to 2.5 years in prison for drug smuggling after THC-infused gummies were found in his luggage.

Daterao Jugal Sudhir, an Enterprise Program Manager at The Walt Disney Company, was arrested at Moscow's airport in January 2026 after the gummies were detected during a baggage inspection.

Sudhir claimed the gummies were prescribed by a US physician following brain surgery, but the court found him guilty of drug trafficking and smuggling.

The court issued a sentence below the statutory minimum due to Sudhir's guilty plea, and he was also ordered to pay a fine of 30,000 rubles ($420).

This is not the first high-profile case involving a foreign national in Russia, following the imprisonment of American basketball player Brittney Griner in 2022.
