A shooting took place in Washington DC today, prompting a brief lockdown in the White House due to its proximity to the scene. The Secret Service was involved in the incident, releasing a statement that confirmed one individual was shot by law enforcement. The DC police also confirmed the shooting had taken place.

Following the incident, a press conference was held by Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn, who stated that the suspect returned fire and was hit, and at least one bystander, a juvenile, was also hit but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Despite claims on X that the shooting took place near Vice President JD Vance's motorcade, the Secret Service noted that the shooting occurred 'minutes after' Vance's motorcade had passed through the area.

There was no indication that the suspect intended to approach Vance's motorcade, and the Secret Service deputy director stated that the suspect was a 'suspicious individual that appeared to have a firearm' who fired on officers before trying to flee on foot.
