A Florida couple, Tiffany Score and Steven Mills, will retain custody of their baby girl, Shea, despite having no genetic relationship with her, following a custody agreement with her biological parents.
The IVF mix-up was discovered when Score and Mills sought genetic testing after their daughter displayed physical characteristics of a racially non-Caucasian child.
After identifying the biological parents, the couple's attorneys confirmed that a mutually devised custody agreement had been reached, recognizing Score and Mills as Shea's permanent custodial parents.
The biological parents intend to remain involved in the child's life while acknowledging the unusual circumstances surrounding the case.
Score and Mills have expressed their commitment to building a relationship of friendship and trust with Shea's biological parents while continuing to raise their daughter.
