Protesters in Geneva clashed with police on Sunday as thousands gathered to demonstrate against the upcoming G7 summit in nearby Evian, France. The protesters threw stones and firecrackers at the police, who responded with tear gas and water cannons.

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Evian on Sunday, ahead of the summit that will bring together leaders from the G7 countries, including the US, Canada, and Germany, as well as invited leaders from other countries.

The three-day summit is expected to focus on several key issues, including efforts to end the war in Iran, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and climate action.

Most of the protesters who took part in the demonstration in Geneva were peaceful, waving banners with messages supporting Palestinian rights, climate action, and anti-capitalist activism.

However, a group of radical protesters, known as the 'Black Bloc,' broke barriers and set cars alight, leading to clashes with the police.

The Swiss authorities had taken precautions to prevent a repeat of the mayhem that occurred during the 2003 G8 summit in Geneva, but some damage was still reported.
