In a major update on the hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship, passengers have been safely evacuated and cleared by Spain's Health Ministry for their respective homes.

However, the passengers will now have to undergo isolation and quarantine before they are fully cleared of potential infection.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has ruled out the potential epidemic, stating that hantavirus is 'not the start of a Covid pandemic.'

Authorities are now focusing on past hantavirus outbreaks, including a 30-year-old case in the Patagonia region of Argentina, to make sense of the outbreak aboard MV Hondius.

The WHO has released a statement reacting to the spread of Hantavirus, assessing the public health risk as low, but warning that more cases may be reported.
