Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal's visit to Canada from May 27-29 is expected to kick-start a series of high-level trade-related meetings, paving the way for a potential comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) between the two nations.

Goyal will meet with his Canadian counterpart, Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, in Ottawa and Toronto, with the latter set to visit India this summer to further the trade engagement.

A number of Indian company executives will accompany Goyal on the visit, meeting their Canadian counterparts during business meetings in Toronto, including a trade and investment forum organized by Global Affairs Canada.

The visit is seen as a significant step in the renewal of relations between India and Canada, with the Canada-India Business Council hailing it as a 'material extension' of the improved ties.
