Tallinn, Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has said India has leverage to put pressure on Russia to end the Ukraine conflict and can play a 'big role' in efforts to bring peace.

Tsahkna also expressed hope that India could be a part of the rebuilding process of war-hit Ukraine, as Estonia is organising the Ukraine recovery conference in 2027.

He noted that Russia has been waging an aggressive war against Ukraine for more than four years and that 'India has leverage on putting more pressure or talk to Russia' to end the conflict.

However, he also stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has to stop the 'atrocities' for peace to be achieved.

Tsahkna claimed that Russia is in a 'shaky position' in its war against Ukraine, and its economy has weakened due to sanctions imposed on Moscow.

He also acknowledged that the situation may be different from an Indian perspective due to India's historical relations with Russia and its large country status with different interests.

However, he stated that Europe now sees Russia as an 'immediate military and political threat' and that India and Estonia share the principle of territorial integrity and support for the UN Charter.
