Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei welcomed the agreement between Iran and the US to end the conflict in West Asia, but expressed reservations about the deal.
The agreement, signed by US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, sets a 60-day period for both countries to discuss broader issues, including Iran's nuclear programme.
Khamenei said he had authorised the agreement despite having a 'different view' on the matter, and attacked Washington, claiming that Trump used 'all kinds of leverage' to bring it about.
The Supreme Leader also stated that Iranian officials had assured him that the country's rights and interests would be protected, and that they would not accept any additional demands from the US.
However, uncertainty remains over the next phase of diplomacy, with neither side confirming plans for a meeting in Switzerland.
The agreement has eased tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy shipping routes, and includes significant economic provisions for Iran, including the removal of oil sanctions and the release of a $300 billion reconstruction fund.
