An Iranian proposal calling for compensation for war-related damage and recognition of its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz was met with a scathing rejection from US President Donald Trump, who deemed it 'totally unacceptable'.

The Iranian response, delivered through Pakistani mediator, also demanded an immediate halt to the war, a guarantee against fresh attacks, and an end to the naval blockade on Iran.

Iran's proposal reportedly includes a 30-day negotiation period to work out further details and a 30-day suspension of US sanctions on Iranian oil sales.

However, Trump's rejection has been met with a shrug from Tehran, with officials stating that they are not trying to win Washington's approval.
