Israel has expanded its ground assault in Lebanon, crossing the Litani River and reaching the Shi'ite-majority city of Nabatieh, a stronghold of Hezbollah. The Israeli military said Hezbollah fired over 300 projectiles at its soldiers in Lebanon and northern Israel over the weekend.
The escalation comes as the US and Iran continue negotiations over a potential agreement that could lead to a permanent ceasefire between the two long-time foes.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the IDF to deepen and expand its hold on areas under Hezbollah's control, citing the capture of the Beaufort ridge as a key victory.
French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned the fresh advance and called for a ceasefire, while Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has said his country didn't choose this war with Israel and that negotiations are the least costly alternative.
The conflict has already displaced thousands of residents in south Lebanon and killed at least 3,370 people, according to the Lebanese health ministry.
