The high-profile case against Karmelo Anthony, accused of stabbing fellow student Austin Metcalf to death, is heading to trial. If convicted, Anthony could face 5-99 years or life in prison.

Austin Metcalf, 17, was a junior at Memorial High School in Frisco, Texas, with a 3.97 GPA and a standout athlete in football and track.

During a rain delay at a high school track meet, Metcalf asked Anthony to leave the event, leading to a confrontation. Witnesses reported Anthony warning Metcalf before pulling out a black knife and stabbing him once in the chest.

Metcalf died in his twin brother Hunter's arms and was remembered at their high school graduation.

Anthony, who claimed self-defense, has no prior criminal history and was defended by many after the incident.
