The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts missed a court-ordered deadline to remove President Trump's name from the building on Friday, citing delayed work due to thunderstorms in Washington, D.C.

Despite a court ruling that only Congress can change the center's name, the board had attempted a last-ditch appeal, which was rejected by Judge Christopher Cooper.

Workers spent Friday night building scaffolding to reach Trump's name, as hundreds of people gathered to watch the removal, with many more watching online.

The center's staff was directed to begin changing email signatures, letterhead, and other documents to remove Trump's name, but the board's appeal has delayed the process.
