Rescue workers in Laos have successfully evacuated four villagers trapped in a flooded cave for 10 days, with two men still missing. The villagers had entered the cave to search for valuable minerals before being trapped by flash flooding.
Rescue teams from Laos, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, France, and Australia joined forces to rescue the trapped group, with several specialists having taken part in the 2018 cave rescue in northern Thailand.
Four of the trapped villagers were safely extracted on Saturday, with photos showing them lying on stretchers, wearing oxygen masks, and wrapped in foil blankets. The rescue operation took about 30 minutes for each person, with the first one being evacuated on Friday.
Rescuers will continue their search for the two missing villagers, planning to explore an area deeper inside the cave that is heavily flooded.
