Joe Negri, a prominent figure from America's beloved children's television program Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, has passed away at the age of 99. Negri, the jazz guitarist who portrayed Handyman Negri, died of natural causes just days before his 100th birthday, as reported by his daughter Lisa Negri.
Before becoming a household name, Negri established an impressive career in music, touring the nation with swing bands at the age of 16 and performing on radio shows and in clubs popular with dancers, including Fred and Gene Kelly.
However, his most lasting role was as Handyman Negri, a regular presence throughout the entire duration of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, spanning 31 seasons from 1968 to 2001.
Even after the show's conclusion, Negri continued to teach music for many years before his retirement in 2019. He was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement in the Arts award by Pennsylvania that same year, honoring his contributions to music and the community.
