India and Canada are racing to seal a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA) before the G20 Leaders' Summit in Miami this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has confirmed he may visit Canada by the end of the year to finalize the deal.
Modi met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in Evian, France, where he expressed his eagerness to complete the free trade agreement. Carney stated that the deadline for negotiations is before the G20, with a goal of doubling trade between the two nations by the end of the decade.
This will be Modi's first standalone bilateral visit to Canada since 2015, marking a significant step in the renewal of bilateral ties. The two leaders have met several times in the past year, including a meeting in November where they announced the launch of fresh negotiations towards the CEPA.
