The remains of Melissa Casias, a 53-year-old administrative assistant at Los Alamos National Laboratory, have been found in the Carson National Forest in New Mexico.

Casias had gone missing in 2025, and her disappearance was linked to a larger group of US scientists, government employees, and contractors who vanished under mysterious circumstances.

A hiker discovered Casias' body in the McGaffey Ridge area of the Carson National Forest, along with a handgun found next to the remains.

The cause of death has yet to be determined, but authorities have confirmed that Casias' remains were found in an area previously searched.

Casias' family has released a statement, saying they will continue to pursue answers for justice.
