A 20-year-old man, Marvale R Bond, allegedly shot and killed an Indian-origin woman, Meghnaben Patel, at a supermarket in Norfolk, Virginia, on May 23, 2026, in a suspected robbery attempt.

Patel, a 10-year employee of Fat Philly's supermarket, was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Authorities believe Bond, who was a resident of Norfolk, entered the supermarket wearing a disguise and interacted with Patel before shooting her twice and fleeing.

However, Bond's death was confirmed when officers found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an unattended car on Almeda Avenue.

Earlier, Bond was involved in a domestic dispute with his stepfather at a nearby home, where he fired a shot into the house, striking his stepfather, who suffered a non-life-threatening wound.
