New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has introduced the Commission on Government Efficiency, or COGE, to make the city government work smarter and more effectively for its people.
The Commission will hold hearings in all five boroughs and meet with union members, community organizers, and working people to shape a more responsive and accountable government.
COGE will be chaired by Patrick Gaspard, a former executive director of the Democratic National Committee and close aide to former President Barack Obama.
The initiative bears resemblance to the DOGE, a Department of Government Efficiency created by the Trump administration, which aimed to slash government waste but was met with criticism and eventually disbanded.
