Palm Springs residents were left concerned on Tuesday as they saw heavy smoke in the California city, sparking fears of active fires in the area. However, the smoke was later identified as coming from the Shore Fire, a 2,000-hectare vegetable fire that broke out in Riverside County.

The Palm Springs Fire Department issued a clarification, stating that winds may carry smoke from fires outside the area into the community from the #Shorefire. The fire is burning in Riverside County, along San Timoteo Canyon Road, just southwest of Calimesa.

Residents were advised to use extra caution and stay aware of changing conditions, given the low humidity, warm temperatures, and extremely dry conditions. A map of the blaze was shared by the fire department, and people shared photos from Palm Springs, with many noting that it's fire season and the smoke is coming from a wildfire about 30 miles away.
