President Trump's proposal for a $1.776 billion 'anti-weaponization' fund is on shaky ground, but Republicans in Congress can ensure it's dead for good.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Congress that the fund is not moving forward, but that's not enough to kill the idea.

Republicans can put a stake through the fund by adding language to the GOP's immigration reconciliation package or passing a two-page bill to halt payouts.

The proposed settlement and fund are different from a normal case against abusive government, as Trump was wronged by an IRS contractor who stole and leaked his tax records in 2019.

Instead of seeking monetary damages, Trump wants to parley the IRS's failure into a $1.8 billion fund to pay off MAGA friends, people who have no legal claim against the tax agency.

Voting to cut off Trump's slush fund would be healthy for Congress's public image and role as a separate branch of government willing to check presidential excess.
