An Indian content creator living in Singapore has sparked a heated debate over the country's strict law regarding fallen fruits. According to her, picking a mango from the ground can result in a SGD5,000 fine, equivalent to ₹3.74 lakh.
The video shows a tree laden with ripe mangoes, with some scattered across the pavement. The content creator explains that under Singaporean law, plucking fruit from a tree or gathering fruit already on the ground is a punishable offence.
The Singapore Ministry of National Development states that trees and their fruit on State land belong to the State, and permission is required to pluck or collect fruit. Those who do so without permission can be fined up to SGD5,000 or SGD50,000, and/or imprisoned for up to 6 months.
