Syrian authorities have introduced new conditions for street protests, sparking concerns over restrictions on freedoms.
The move, announced by the interior ministry, requires protesters to apply for permission and adhere to 'legal conditions and mechanisms' to ensure security and public order.
However, rights activists have criticized the decision, saying it reinstates a permit system in place under former President Bashar al-Assad.
They argue that only legislative bodies can impose restrictions on constitutional rights like freedom of assembly, and that the administrative decree is 'illegal and in violation of the constitution'.
Protests have erupted in different parts of Syria since Assad's ouster over various issues, including living conditions and political and rights issues.
