Texas Election Results: Paxton Wins Senate, Abbott Secures Governor Nomination

Texas voters headed to the polls on Tuesday for high-stakes primary runoff elections, with intense national attention on the Republican US Senate runoff between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

President Donald Trump endorsed Paxton late in the race, calling him “a true MAGA Warrior” who has delivered for Texas.

According to NBC News projections, Ken Paxton defeated incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, winning 62.6% of the vote (518,807 votes) compared to Cornyn’s 37.4% (310,284 votes).

On the Democratic side, State Rep. James Talarico secured the nomination after defeating a crowded field.

Governor Greg Abbott easily won the Republican nomination, capturing about 82% of the vote as he seeks a fourth term.

State Rep. Gina Hinojosa won the Democratic nomination with roughly 59% support.

State Sen. Mayes Middleton led the Republican runoff for Attorney General with about 57% of the vote, while State Sen. Nathan Johnson led the Democratic runoff.

Other notable congressional runoff races also drew attention across Texas, with Christian Menefee projected to defeat Rep. Al Green in District 18 and Colin Allred leading Julie Johnson in District 33.
