A Texas high school educator has been arrested for allegedly engaging in sexual relations with a 17-year-old student in his classroom.

Chad Allen Rodriguez, a 38-year-old physics and astronomy instructor, is facing up to 20 years in prison for a second-degree felony charge.

According to authorities, Rodriguez began flirting with the student after their initial meeting last October and they exchanged explicit videos and images through sexting.

The immoral meetings were uncovered when another student noticed them alone in the classroom, prompting the girl to inform the police about her sexual encounters with the teacher.

Rodriguez was placed on leave from John Jay High School in San Antonio, where he had been employed for a decade, and is currently detained at the Bexar County jail with a $50,000 bail.
