Iran's war with Israel and the US has taken a dramatic turn as US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu clashed over the escalating conflict in Lebanon.

A partial ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel was announced on Monday, but the agreement has been met with skepticism as both sides continue to exchange fire.

Trump claimed that Hezbollah had pledged not to attack Israel, but Netanyahu said Israel would continue military operations in southern Lebanon, where ground forces are pushing toward the Zaharani River.

The US has backed Israel's operations against Hezbollah, while pursuing a deal with Iran to end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and impose controls on Iran's nuclear programme.

However, Iran has warned that it could pull out of negotiations with the US in response to Israel's actions in Lebanon, and has suspended dialogue with mediators over the issue.

The conflict has also taken a toll on global shipping, with a large explosion reported on a cargo vessel off Iraq after it was hit by an unknown projectile.
