US President Donald Trump has requested changes to the proposed deal with Iran, seeking tougher conditions on the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear material, according to multiple reports.

Trump held a meeting with his national security team in the Situation Room on Friday, where he called for changes to toughen the terms of the deal.

The new framework has been sent back to Iran, with Axios reporting that the amended parts involve tougher conditions on enriched uranium and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump took to his Truth Social platform, sharing details of the meeting and stating that the two countries are close to a peace deal to end the conflict.

However, Iran has rubbished the US claims, saying negotiations are still underway on the ceasefire deal and no final understanding has been reached.

Key points still remain to be discussed, including Iran's enriched uranium and the US's nuclear program.

Trump has maintained that the peace deal with Iran is on the cards, but underlined that military action remains a viable option if talks fail.
