US President Donald Trump has criticized Democrats and 'unpatriotic Republicans' for interfering with his ability to negotiate effectively with Iran.

Trump said Iran is ready to strike a deal that will be 'good' for the US, but political criticism at home is making negotiations difficult.

The status of negotiations remains unknown after the US struck Iranian targets over the weekend in 'self-defense.'

A proposed deal would see a 60-day ceasefire, unrestricted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran's removal of all mines from the strait within 30 days.

In return, the US would lift restrictions on Hormuz and issue sanctions waivers to allow Iran to sell oil, with a focus on Iran's enriched uranium and nuclear enrichment activities.

However, both sides remain divided, with no consensus reached on the key terms of the agreement.
