South Korea's President Lee Jae Myung has sought US President Donald Trump's help in resolving the North Korean nuclear issue, citing his success in resolving the Middle East war. Lee made the request during a brief exchange on the sidelines of the G7 summit in France.
The exchange took place during a group photo session, where Trump also shared a positive signal by posting a photo of himself and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un walking together during their 2018 summit in Singapore.
Trump had previously held talks with Kim three times during his first presidency, but the engagement failed to persuade the North Korean leader to abandon his nuclear ambitions.
Lee also held talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, where South Korea expressed its readiness to help the North American country boost its defense capabilities, with a lucrative submarine contract at stake.
