US President Donald Trump has dealt a blow to Middle East peace efforts, warning Iran that he would resume 'dropping bombs' and 'shooting' if Tehran fails to abide by its obligations.

Trump made the remarks at the G7 Summit in France, clarifying that only a memorandum of understanding had been reached with Iran, and no deal had been finalised.

He threatened to go back to aggressive tactics, saying 'if they don't behave, we'll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head.'

The comments come just days ahead of an agreement expected to be signed in Switzerland on June 19, which could potentially end the conflict between the US and Iran.

However, Trump's fresh threats could hamper progress made last week, when both sides expressed hope of reaching an agreement soon.

The US naval blockade on Iranian ports has been partially lifted, and Iranian oil tankers have exited the zone in the Gulf blockaded by the US Navy.

Oil prices have also eased, with international benchmark Brent North Sea crude falling to a three-month low under $79 per barrel.
