Anthropic has suspended access to its two most advanced AI models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, following a US government national-security order. The directive, received on Friday, bars foreign nationals from using the models, citing concerns over potential hacking risks.

The company, which has disputed the basis for the order, has disabled access to the models for all customers worldwide. This is the first time a leading AI company has taken a publicly deployed model offline at the instruction of the US government.

The move has sparked concerns among governments and businesses, highlighting the risks of relying on foreign-controlled AI models. India, which is the second-largest market for Anthropic's consumer service, has been advised to invest heavily in AI research and development to achieve technological sovereignty.

Anthropic is working to restore access to the models, but the episode has served as a catalyst for a larger geopolitical shift, emphasizing the need for independent and sovereign AI models.
