The US Navy has rescued 14 Indian sailors after their vessel, MSV Virat 1, began sinking off the coast of Oman on Sunday morning.
According to sources, the US Navy alerted shore authorities and the Indian Navy, and a US Navy P8 aircraft dropped a life raft, which the crew safely boarded.
The Indian naval authorities confirmed that all 14 sailors have been transferred to the life raft.
The MV Jabal Ali 9, a St Kitts and Nevis-flagged vessel, has been requested to provide assistance and is currently in the vicinity of the dhow.
The Indian Embassy in Oman has confirmed that a search and rescue operation is underway, coordinated with the Omani authorities.
The embassy stated that the vessel experienced an engine failure, leading to the crew's safe transfer to a liferaft.
