Iran and Pakistan have sent a revised draft proposal to the United States aimed at ending the war, according to Pakistani sources. The US response is expected by Sunday, with officials suggesting that Washington and Tehran are nearing agreement on a memorandum of understanding.
US President Trump has hinted at keeping the military option open, but also told CBS that America and Iran were "getting a lot closer" to an agreement. Trump is expected to meet with his negotiators on Saturday to discuss Iran's latest proposal and decide whether to resume the conflict on Sunday.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson said the draft was a "framework agreement" and that the nuclear issue was not part of negotiations at this stage. Pakistan, which is mediating, said the MoU had been "fine-tuned" and that there had been "significant progress" on key points.
