US Vice President JD Vance has revealed that the delay in releasing the full text of the US-Iran peace agreement, dubbed the 'Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding', may have been due to the absence of press freedom in Pakistan.

The agreement was mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announcing the ceasefire agreement on social media earlier this week.

Vance appeared on The New York Times podcast, 'Interesting Times with Ross Douthat', where he explained that the delay in publishing the full text was due to the lack of First Amendment protections and freedom of the press in the mediator nations.

He stated that in the Pakistani and Qatari systems, there isn't an expectation that the text would be made public for the American people to analyze and understand.

The interim agreement aims to end the conflict, reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and bring the two rivals back to negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme.

It will also provide Iran with an immediate advantage by allowing it to resume unrestricted oil exports.
