US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has vowed to keep the Ebola virus out of the country, amid a growing outbreak in central Africa.

Rubio made the statement during a cabinet meeting at the White House, where he said the State Department and other agencies are working hard to contain the crisis.

The Trump administration has set up a treatment facility in Kenya for US citizens who contract the virus, instead of facilitating their return to the US for medical assistance.

Patients will have access to a full-spectrum of care for Ebola Virus Disease, with the option for forward transport to more advanced care as needed.

The US government has also implemented restrictions on entry for US citizens and permanent residents who have visited the DRC, Uganda, or South Sudan within the past 21 days.

The World Health Organization has recorded over 1,000 suspected Ebola infections, including 223 deaths, but health officials warn that the true number of cases may be higher.
